Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 18, 2026
Overview
Commons is a group collaboration app for chat, polls, documents, and shared content, organized into spaces. This policy describes what information Commons ("we", "us") collects when you use our mobile apps and website, how we use it, and the choices you have. We collect only what we need to run the service — we do not sell your personal information, and we do not show you ads.
Information we collect
- Account information. Your mobile phone number (used to sign you in with a one-time code) and the name you choose to display to other members.
- Content you create. Messages, polls and votes, documents, and files you post to spaces, along with the spaces you create or join.
- Technical information. Basic logs generated by operating the service, such as request timestamps, IP addresses, and device or browser type, used for security and troubleshooting.
How we use your information
- To provide the service: authenticating you, delivering your messages and content to the members of your spaces, and syncing across your devices.
- To keep the service safe: preventing abuse, fraud, and unauthorized access.
- To fix problems and improve reliability, using logs and diagnostics.
- To communicate essential service information with you.
Text messaging (SMS)
Commons uses SMS solely to send you one-time verification codes when you sign in. By entering your phone number you consent to receive these authentication messages; message and data rates may apply. We do not send marketing or promotional text messages. Phone numbers collected for SMS verification, and any consent to receive SMS, are not shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
How we share information
Content you post to a space is visible to the members of that space. Beyond that, we share personal information only with service providers that help us operate Commons — such as our SMS delivery provider (to send verification codes) and our cloud hosting provider (to store and serve your data) — and only as needed to provide the service. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or security of Commons and its users. We never sell your personal information.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your account information and content for as long as your account is active so the service works for you and your spaces. You can delete individual content you have posted at any time. To delete your account and associated personal information, contact us at bill.andersonblough@gmail.com and we will process the deletion within 30 days, except where we are required to retain information by law.
Security
Your data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with reputable cloud infrastructure providers. We limit access to personal information to what is needed to operate the service. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard practices.
Children
Commons is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and notify you in the app or by other reasonable means.
